In 2004, my husband, Mark, and I accepted a challenge/dare and trained for the Chicago Marathon. No, we didn't really know what we were doing, but we were trained by someone who did. We learned a lot that year, about ourselves, as well as about how training for a marathon and the marathon itself mirrors our everyday lives. We gathered friends who wanted to get up and get moving and away we went. We were marathoners! We were training for our first marathon and started by doing one mile.
That year, 22 of us finished the Chicago Marathon. It was an amazing, difficult, life changing experience. We thought we were one and done. However, when we got home, people started asking if we were going to do it again, so we did.
We turned Marathon Makeover into a life changing, personal development journey, wrapped up in marathon training. For the next 12 years, we trained over 4,000 people to go from couch potato to marathoner.
With Mark's experience and training as a Marriage and Family Therapist, we helped people embrace themselves, strive to be their best, and get healthy in the process of daily training and, eventually, finishing their race.
Through the years, we discovered how powerful our daily habits are - from the thoughts in our heads, to the food on our plates, to the activity that we do or do not do. Our choices make us or break us.
We believe that getting up and moving is a big part of a person's health, along with taking responsibility for our choices.
As we move forward with Marathon Makeover, we want to encourage, educate and motivate, so that you can live your life to its fullest and simplest.
As a marathoner, professional organizer/interior designer and healthy habits geek, I want to share with you what I've learned and am learning as I work to live a simple, healthy, happy life.
Join me in the journey - whether it's to get up and do a 5k, 10k, 1/2 or full marathon, or develop healthier habits so that you can be your best - I'd love to help.
