2019 Restart
Feb 07, 2019

It's only February 7 and it's time for a restart? Well, sort of.
2019 did not get off to a great start for me. Bringing in the new year with a nasty virus that won't go away is no fun and slowed me down, way down!
However, I will not be stopped. I will continue to move forward, no matter how slowly. This is what I've tried to teach people all these years - just don't quit! Keep moving!
My goals this year are:
First, I commit a portion of each day doing those things that will make me better and accomplish my goals, whether it is cleaning out another drawer or running another mile.
Second, I am going to chart and record my actions and my progress. In doing this, I will be able to look back and see what my efforts, no matter how small, have accomplished.
Third, no matter how I feel, I will continue to move forward. Some days, I won't feel like committing time to my goal, but I will - even if it is for 10 minutes. At least it will be something.
Today, I did 3 things that fall into the goals category.
- I did a tutorial to learn how to better use Excel.
- I learned more about one of the tasks I am responsible for at work, so that I can improve my performance.
- I used my fitness club membership for the first time, which is something I've been putting off.
When I've been sidelined or slowed by injury or illness, I can forget very quickly what I was capable of before the injury or illness. Getting back out there can be tough and slow!
Luckily, i have some wonderful running friends who motivate and encourage me to keep at it and remind me that I'll be back to where I was very soon.
So, where am I now? I am working on getting consistent with my running again, continuing with my yoga and I have registered for my first race!
At the end of April, I'll be doing my first trail run, so between now and then, I must get out on the trails and get some trail running in, so that I can get in some practice on that kind of surface.
How are your goals coming along? Have you set any for 2019? It's not too late. Any time is a good time to set a goal and get to work on it. You don't have to wait for the new year! Start where you are and get to work!
Running happy,
Robin
