Perfection Gets in the Way
Feb 03, 2020

Perfection, or the pursuit of perfection, gets in my way. Does it get in your way? I like to write. I like to blog, if for no one else's benefit, for my own benefit. It helps me think. It forces me to examine my beliefs, my habits, my thoughts, and my actions. Often times, I am waiting for perfection. Earlier today, I saw this graphic from Dr. Rebecca Ray and found it to be true of where and how I get stuck.
Perfection is an unrealistic expectation in anything that we do. Why? Because we are imperfect beings. We are good. We are talented. We are smart. We are capable. We are resourceful. We are creative. We are all of these things and more, BUT, we are not perfect. Therefore, nothing we ever do will ever be perfect. We choose to chase perfection and miss our progress. We pass up good and great, becoming frustrated with poor results, such as getting nothing done, instead of something.
My challenge to you, and to myself, would be to cut yourself a break.
- Strive for greatness by working hard to be your best,
- go after what you want to achieve, and
- notice your progress along the way.
Perfection, and the pursuit of it, can blind you to the good, and even great, things happening all around you - things that you are achieving and contributing to every day. Drop the expectation of perfection.Take notice of the progress.
This blog is not perfect. It is a beginning for me, of getting back to regular writing. I hope it helps you to start, or continue, doing something that you enjoy, improving your life and the lives of others.
Join me in the pursuit of progress, not perfection.
Gotta run,
Robin
P.S. Who wants to live in Perfection, if there's no one there?
