Another Training Season? But, why?
Nov 21, 2019
In the past month, I have been asked, many times, “Why are you doing another training season of Marathon Makeover?”. Believe me, at first, I was questioning it myself.
And, then, we opened registration and people starting signing up, continued to sign up, and are still asking if it’s too late to join in on the fun!
And, then, we started live streaming the week before our first walk/run, and people showed up with excitement, nervousness and questions. They were ready to get started!
And, then, we met for our first group run. It was a wonderful turnout! As we talked to the crowd, we asked how many were new. There were a good many. We asked who had done Marathon Makeover before. Again, there were a good many. We asked for a show of hands of those who had trained with us each year – 2004 through 2015. There was at least one person from every past training season. Wow!
And, then, we got out there with them to do their first mile. We saw the smiles, we felt the pride, the sense of accomplishment, and we experienced the joy of being back, doing what we love to do.
We love to help people accomplish the goal of getting up, moving, and finishing. Whether it is a 5K, 10K, ½ marathon or full, the goal of crossing a finish line can motivate someone to get active and improve their health.
So, we begin our training season with a group mixed with newbies, re-starters, and those who have been moving and want to share the journey because they know the power of community. They are familiar with the encouragement, motivation and inspiration that comes along with belonging to a group, sharing a common goal, holding one another accountable. A group can provide the positive kind of peer pressure that we need to grow and become better.
This is the magic of Marathon Makeover.
This is why we say that it is so much more than a marathon. Because it is. It is so much more than going the distance.
It is about working on yourself physically, mentally, spiritually and relying on others to show you the way, as they take the journey with you.
Have you taken your first steps with us in this training? Have you started a journey of your own? Are you ready for a transformation?
If you stick with it, you will be transformed. This transformation will probably affect you in ways you did not anticipate. This is a good thing, just go with it. Know that we are all working through the process and working on ourselves. It is nice to have the company.
And that, is why we do it. We do it because we know, we want to help, and we want to continue on our own journey because it’s not over ‘til it’s over and it’s not over.
We are in this together, so let's do it.
Gotta run,
Robin
